Scotland's Fuel Poverty Charity Welcomes New Routemap to an Energy Efficient Scotland

Scotland’s national fuel poverty charity, Energy Action Scotland welcomes today’s launch of a new Routemap to an Energy Efficient Scotland by First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon.

While attending the All Energy Conference in Glasgow, the First Minister spoke of her commitment to tackle fuel poverty and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, outlining action to ensure that by 2040, all homes are more fuel efficient.

HEEPS: Loan scheme for Registered Social Landlords now open for applications

The Scottish Government’s HEEPS: Loan scheme for Registered Social Landlords 2018/2019 is now open for applications.

Applications must be submitted by 31st July 2018 and will be reviewed on a first come, first served basis subject to available funding.  Successful applicants must complete work and claim their funds by 28th February 2019.

Energy Action Scotland Welcomes New Commitment to Eradicating Fuel Poverty

The Scottish Government has responded today (8 March) to the final reports of its two advisory groups on fuel poverty.  Last autumn the Scottish Fuel Poverty Strategic Working Group and the Scottish Rural Fuel Poverty Task Force concluded their year-long deliberations and published between them over 100 recommendations for better tackling fuel poverty in Scotland.

National Fuel Poverty Charity Reaction to Advisory Group Reports Published Today

Reacting to the publication today (24 October 2016) of the final reports of the two short-life advisory groups set up by the Scottish Government to review fuel poverty in Scotland, the national fuel poverty charity Energy Action Scotland is urging Scottish Ministers to now reset the target to eliminate fuel poverty in Scotland.

Energy Action Scotland endorses the call to the Scottish Government by both the Scottish Fuel Poverty Strategic Working Group and the Scottish Rural Fuel Poverty Task Force for the new policy to “be firmly based on the principle of social justice”.

Scottish Government Issued with a Final Demand to End Fuel Poverty

Today (30 November) the Scottish Government has been issued with a ‘final demand’ to end fuel poverty by the national fuel poverty charity Energy Action Scotland.

The letter sent to all MSPs as well as to Scottish Ministers is a reminder that it is exactly one year until the statutory duty to end fuel poverty must be met.  The Housing (Scotland) Act 2001 states that the Scottish Government has ‘to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that people are not living in fuel poverty in Scotland by November 2016’.

Reducing energy bills and tackling fuel poverty ought to be as important as reducing carbon.  Now is the time when the Scottish Government must also take the opportunity to undertake a full review of how fuel poverty in Scotland can be eradicated and in what timescale.”
