EDF Energy Price Rise – Energy Action Scotland Reaction

It will be a case of ‘deja-vu’ for many customers of EDF Energy as the company puts its prices up for the second time in a matter of months.

Customers on its standard variable tariffs will see increases come in soon ranging from 5.5 per cent for gas to 9 per cent for electricity.

Response to the news today (13 March) that SSE is increasing its standard electricity prices but holding its gas prices for domestic customers

Elizabeth Gore, Deputy Director of the national fuel poverty charity Energy Action Scotland said:

“Having had a string of energy companies increase their prices recently, it was almost inevitable that others would follow and today SSE has increased its prices for electricity.

Fear that Energy Price Rises will Push Up Fuel Poverty

The news today (Feb 3) that npower is increasing its electricity and gas prices for customers next month by up to 15 per cent will without doubt set off alarm bells for many people already struggling to afford their fuel bills. Some other energy companies have already said they also expect to increase prices this spring.

Energy Action Scotland Reaction to Gas Price Cuts

In the wake of announcements by E.ON and SSE that they are reducing gas prices by around 5 per cent, the national fuel poverty charity Energy Action Scotland has called for other companies to follow their example in making cuts but have urged them to do so before the heating season ends.
